Duty Manager
Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway require a Duty Manager to provide supervision of customer facing operations on an ad hoc basis.
In addition to Front of House and admin duties, the following are some of the tasks involved:
- Ensure Front of House staff are briefed with details of the day’s activities and events
- Answer queries from Front of House staff
- Deal with urgent site issues
- Deal with face-to-face customer queries
- Act as primary First Aider (training will be provided as necessary)
- Organise additional tasks for FOH staff as necessary, organise lunch cover etc
As Exbury is a busy customer-facing environment, the role also demands the very best in customer care and proven problem-solving skills.
Work Pattern: On an ad hoc basis, including some weekends and bank holidays. It is expected that this role will consist of 5-10 days per month.
Hourly rate: £15.81.
Based at Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway (SO45 1AZ) but requiring occasional off-site working.

Site Support Assistant
Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway require a Site Support Assistant to assist with a variety of tasks, ranging from day-to-day operations to the set-up of special events. The postholder will need to demonstrate a range of practical skills as well as some computer experience. As Exbury is a busy customer-facing environment, the role also demands the very best in customer care skills.
Here are some examples of the tasks involved:
- Maintenance and repairs to customer-facing facilities
- Car parking
- Midday toilet tidying as necessary at peak times
- Set building for events
- Painting and decorating
- Watering and weeding Plant Centre
- Event set-up/breakdown – Music Festival, Halloween, Christmas etc
- Cleaning/maintenance of exterior of buildings
- Clearing of blocked drains as/when necessary
- Cleaning signage throughout entrance area and gardens
- Fire alarm and emergency lighting checks
- Daily litter picking and emptying of bins at peak times
- Daily scooter and wheelchair checks
- Daily play area safety checks
- Acting as sickness cover for FOH if necessary or cover an additional till at peak moments
- Working outside Visitor Entrance on busy days to signpost facilities and direct visitors
- Act as an additional First Aider
- Checking/maintaining First Aid kits
- Assisting with retail stock deliveries/movements
- Carry out mobility scooter hire briefings with visitors
Full or part-time/job share options considered.
Salary: £27,000 (or pro rata equivalent for part-time).
Work Pattern: To cover 5 days in 7, including some weekends and bank holidays on a rota.
