Dragonfly Week

Join us in celebrating our dragonflies and damselflies as part of National Dragonfly Week from 4th to 12th July. Exbury Gardens is an official British Dragonfly Society Hotspot, with 24 species now identified here, at Dragonfly Pond and across the gardens.

There are two factors that explain the the very high number of different species of dragonflies and damselflies at Exbury: one is the mixture of still and flowing water habitats, and the other is that some dragonflies like acidic water, and some like alkaline, and Exbury is ideal because it has a mixture of both. Flowing water attracts different species i.e. the Banded Demoiselle and the Golden-Ringed Dragonfly, a very large dragonfly often in action here in the summer.

Visit Dragonfly Pond to count, colour and craft with a range of free family activities located in the shelter.
